WASHINGTON - Today, in a show of support for Arizona's playoff bound baseball team, U.S. Rep. Ed Pastor, D-Ariz., made a friendly wager with Rep. Dan Lipinski, D-Ill., that the Diamondbacks would win their divisional playoff series against the Cubs. The Diamondbacks enter the playoffs after winning the National League West Division, while the Cubs enter as champions of the National League Central Division. "I'm confident the Diamondbacks will continue to fascinate fans as they take this division and carry their success to the World Series," Pastor said. "I relish the idea of eating a slice of Chicago's famous pizza, and I hope the Curse of the Billy Goat will continue to live on this year. Anybody, anytime." "After a rough start the Cubs came on very strong and were able to hold off the Brewers," said Rep. Lipinski. "I'm confident they will be able to carry their winning ways into the playoffs and win the Divisional Series against the Diamondbacks." In a show of sportsmanship, each Congressman agreed to wager products from their home districts. If the Diamondbacks win the series, Lipinski will deliver Chicago's famous Home Run Inn pizza to Pastor. If the Cubs win the series, Pastor will provide Lipinski with a batch of Arizona's trademark red chile tamales. |
