Congressman Pastor's Citizenship Day Oct. 25
Free U.S. citizenship application assistance
to be offered by Congressman Pastor's Office
PHOENIX, Ariz. - U.S. Rep. Ed Pastor, D-Ariz., is offering assistance in applying for U.S. citizenship on Oct.
25 at a workshop where trained volunteers will help legal permanent residents complete their citizenship
applications. The assistance to complete the applications is free. However, applicants will need to pay $675
to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to process their individual applications.
To receive assistance on Oct. 25, legal residents need to register for an appointment with Rep.
Pastor's office by Oct. 17 by phoning 602-256-0551. When contacting the office, residents will be screened
to determine whether they are eligible to apply for U.S. citizenship. People also may register in person at the
office, which is located at 411 N. Central Ave., Suite 150, Phoenix. Office hours are Monday through Friday,
from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Space is limited.
Once registered for Citizenship Day, applicants will be sent a packet with a list of documents and
information they will need to gather and bring on Oct. 25 to the citizenship event. The information is needed to
complete the individuals' citizenship applications.
Applicants also will need to provide on Oct. 25 the required application fee, which currently is a total
of $675, payable to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, and $14 for immigration photos, if needed.
A credit union member will be selling money orders on site on Oct. 25 for a $1 fee.
To become a U.S. citizen, a person must, among other requirements:
- Have been a legal permanent resident of the United States for at least five years, or
- Have been married to a U.S. citizen for at least three years and been a legal permanent resident for
at least three years.
- Speak, read and write English unless one qualifies for an exemption.
- Have good moral character. Violations of the law may prevent you from becoming a U.S. citizen.
Please contact Congressman Pastor's office with questions, and to register for an appointment. The
location of the Citizenship Day event is provided to applicants once they have registered for an appointment.

Solicite su ciudadanía Estadounidense
Se ofrecerá ayuda el 25 de octubre en Phoenix
PHOENIX, Ariz. - Si gusta ayuda en solicitar la ciudadanía Estadounidense, el sábado, 25
de Octubre, el Congresista Pastor ofrecerá un día de ayuda en Phoenix donde voluntarios
ayudarán a los residentes legales llenar la solicitud de ciudadanía. La ayuda es gratis.
Para recibir ayuda, se necesitan registrar antes del 17 de octubre con la oficina
del Congresista Pastor. Pueden llamar por teléfono al número 602-256-0551, o
llegar en persona a la oficina que está en 411 Norte de la Avenida Central, número
150, en el centro de Phoenix. La oficina está abierta lunes a viernes, de las 8 de la mañana
hasta las 5 de la tarde.
Cuando se registrán, recibirán más información sobre los documentos que necesitarán
que preparar para el 25 de octubre para recibir ayuda en llenar su solicitud de ciudadanía.
También se explicará cuanto cobra el "U.S. Department of Homeland Security." Hoy
cobran un total de $675 para solicitar la ciudadanía. También se cobrará $14 si necesita
fotos de inmigración. Se venderán giros postales por $1.
Para solicitar la ciudadanía Estadounidense, tienes que:
1. Tener más de cinco años de residencia permanente legal en los E.E.U.U., o
2. Haber sido casado con un ciudadano Estadounidense por tres años a lo menos y
haber tenido más de tres años de residencia permanente legal en los E.E.U.U.
3. Saber hablar, escribir y leer en Inglés, a menos que uno califique para una exención.
4. Tener buen carácter moral por los últimos cinco años sin problemas criminales
incluyendo DUI/DWI o otras felonías.
Por favor de registrarse pronto con la oficina del Congresista Pastor porque el
espacio es limitado, y para no perder esta oportunidad importante.
