WASHINGTON—U.S. Rep. Ed Pastor, D-Ariz., issued the following statement in reaction to the shootings in Tucson, Ariz., today:

“I’m very happy that the doctors appeared optimistic that Gabby (Rep. Gabrielle Giffords) is going to recover. But I was deeply saddened to hear about Judge Roll. Recently, we were working with him on issues with the federal courts in Arizona. I would like to extend my condolences to all the victims and their families.

Hopefully this will show the American people that we can’t settle our disagreements with bodily harm. We have the right to disagree, but not in a disagreeable manner.

I continue to pray for the recovery of all the victims and Congresswoman Giffords.”
